Masseria Iazzo Scagno is the dream of an exceptional couple to create a special place. A place which gives you the notion of being far removed from the stresses of life. A place which embraces its surroundings. The setting is a 100 hectare preserve of woods and meadows, where “Murgesi” horses are roaming freely and wild orchids and other indigenous plants are thriving. Masseria Iazzo Scagno is extraordinary. No words or pictures will ever really do it justice, as it is the atmosphere which is truly enchanting.
The 6 rooms located in the renovated stables are beautiful and very generous in size. They are simple but furnished with great care. Natural colours and materials inside are just the perfect continuation of the outside. A wall of glass invites in the trees and all becomes one. No television disturbs the peace.
The pool is just a few steps away from here, encircled by the ancient dry stone walls, as though it had always been here. Filled with salt water, no chemicals are needed.
A small path takes you to the Trullo and the attached stables which have been turned into a wonderful dining room and event space with a big fireplace. In some way the Trullo is very symbolic of Masseria Iazzo Scagno. It is skillfully restored, showing the crafted stones in all of their splendour. A fireplace creates light and warmth and invites to gather around with friends and loved ones. There is no furniture obstructing the space.
Instead, comfortable hay bales take on the shape of sofas and coffee tables- natural , warm, intimate and original, all at once.
If you like being completely independent, one of the 3 apartments might be the right option for you. They all feature an open-plan kitchen and living area, a separate bedroom and bathroom. The style is similar to the rooms, however, a hint cozier. Also a television is included.
Even if you are staying in one of the apartments, you should definitely try the breakfast Anna prepares every morning. Only produce from the Masseria and the local surroundings is used to prepare all these wonderful dishes, which will surprise you everyday anew. As a matter of fact, the menu is never the same, always depending on what the garden provides. This is not your regular Italian breakfast- it is a feast of sweet and savoury dishes, all home made and in such abundance that you will want to skip lunch.
After a day of walking, cycling, horse riding, touring the region, or just lounging by the pool, you should speak to Crescenzio, who will give you expert advice on where to have dinner . Being fairly close to Martina Franca and having all of the other picturesque towns of the Valle d’ Itria within a 20 km radius, you are spoilt for choice.
By the way, Crescenzio and Anna made their dream come true!
